Summer Hanbok Photo Sessions

Summer is no joke in Korea! If you will be visiting during the summer heat (and rain!) here are some tips for a smooth photo session that everyone will enjoy.

1. Dress in layers

Especially in the summer it's super important to dress in layers! Hanbok typically will go on over your clothes so I recommend dressing with thin underlayers so you can take off your heavier layers before putting on the hanbok. Uniqlo and Top Ten sell cooling tanks that are thin and keep you cool that I highly recommend.

2. Start early

Your best bet for not only less crowded beautiful photos, but also for some cooler temps is early in the morning. Most hanbok rental shops will open around 8 am and Gyeongbokgung opens at 9am. The slightly earlier wake-up time will be worth it for better lighting as well as a less sweaty (and less crowded!) experience at the palace.

3. Stay cool

Even early in the morning it will still be hot so I definitely recommend bringing a handheld fan (you can get a cheap one at Daiso or a nicer one from places like ArtBox) as well as some ice cold water. Staying hydrated is super important and drinking cold water plus the fan will help keep you cool!

4. Wear comfortable shoes

This one I can't state enough! I recommend passing on the traditional shoe rentals some hanbok shops offer as an upgrade and stick to your trusty comfortable walking shoes. The flooring in the palaces are notoriously uneven and we will be walking around quite a bit as we transition between backdrops and poses so it pays to be comfortable!

While summertime temperatures and humidity can be daunting, booking a hanbok photoshoot at the palace is a once in a lifetime experience you won't want to miss!
